2nd Mobility Dogs Charity Golf Tournament - News

Following the success of the inaugural Mobility Dogs Charity Golf Tournament in 2008, our second golf tournament was held on Friday 27 March at North Shore Golf Club. This was another fantastic day with the added bonus that this year we managed to get the weather right; perfect conditions held throughout the afternoon. The Trust is delighted to announce a profit in the order of $20,000.

19 teams competed for “The Founder’s Cup” in 4 man Ambrose format. Prior to a 1pm shotgun start Mobility Dogs Ambassadog ‘Chance’ demonstrated a range of assistance dog tasks including taking off a golf glove, picking up his plastic golf clubs and retrieving a wayward golf ball; that is, in between his more regular everyday task repertoire of nudging a pedestrian button, picking up a credit card, paying over the counter and barking for help on command.

‘Chance’ welcomed golfers to the tournament by shaking the hand of young North Shore golfing talent - Jack Green (8) from Pinehurst School – a member of a team representing the Jubilee Trust.

We greatly appreciated Gail & Paul Harbott joining us from Christchurch. Gail, who recently lost her mobility dog ‘Audi’ to cancer, spoke about her experiences partnered with ‘Audi’ over the past two years and what she (and her family, friends & colleagues) are sadly missing.

Some of you will recall Michelle’s & ‘Amber’s’ delight last year when a Club member came up to Michelle and pledged $2,000 to the Trust. She was equally amazed to meet the same member this year and receive $3,000. Such generosity is hugely rewarding to all those working very hard for Mobility Dogs to see more dogs out in our communities enhancing the everyday lives of physically disabled New Zealanders.

Huge thanks to North Shore Taxis for providing sponsorship of the cleverly branded drinks cart together with their team.

Great to see the CP team out supporting us in force . . . and almost on the leaderboard

but some further work required on the greens for the Mobility Dogs team heading towards our golf day in 2010!

Many thanks to all those who contributed to our attractive range of auction/raffle prizes and ‘goodie’ bags. The Charity Auction was once again facilitated with enthusiasm by Michael Hogan assisted by Mike Squires of Signature Golf. Our grand prize bidder for a five day Island Escape Cruise around Vanuatu will not be disappointed and we look forward to hearing which ‘mystery’ destination Air National will be flying our Black Sticks Ambassador, James Nation, to!
