8 Mobility Dogs working teams graduate8 Mobility Dogs working teams placed over the past 12 months were officially recognised at Graduation 2009 held @ CCS Disability Action conference facility on Saturday 28 November.
Following an opening address by General Manager, Suzanne Crowther, our guest speaker Agnes Robertson, Manager of the Auckland Region Women's Correctional Facility, spoke to 80+ guests about the Puppies in Prison programme successfully running in conjunction with the Department of Corrections. Agnes shared her positive views re this initiative from the perspective of rehabilitation; a win win partnership for all involved. 6 of the 8 teams graduating were with us on the day. In much the same way as "it takes a village to raise a child", it takes a community to raise a mobility dog. An official graduation is the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of many who contribute to each mobility dog; from breeders and animal welfare agencies to puppy-raisers, dog trainers, sponsors and supporters. Certificates of Appreciation were presented by Peter Smith, Chairperson of the Trust.
